On March 1, 2026, Consul General Xu Wei attended the online seminar commemorating the 114th birth anniversary of Dr. Bejoy Kumar Basu and India’s National Acupuncture Day. Nearly 100 participants took part in the event, including Dr. Bakshi and Dr. Mitra—direct disciples of Dr. Basu—as well as scholars, acupuncture practitioners and trainees from the Indian Research Institute for Integrated Medicine (IRRIIM) and the Acupuncture Science Association (ASA).

In his remarks, Consul General Xu stated that the Chinese people will never forget the outstanding contributions of the Indian Medical Mission to China, represented by Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis and Dr. Bejoy Kumar Basu. During the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, they came to China and saved countless lives under extremely difficult conditions. After returning to India, Dr. Basu devoted his life to carrying forward the legacy of Dr. Kotnis and promoting China-India friendship. He successfully introduced and popularized Chinese acupuncture in India. In his hands, slender silver needles became threads weaving a lasting bond between the two great civilizations.
Consul General Xu indicated that the Consulate General of China is willing to support deeper collaboration in traditional medicine and beyond, and work together with friends from all sectors to uphold the spirit of solidarity embodied by Dr. Kotnis and Dr. Basu, and carry forward China-India friendship for generations to come.
