On 6 July 2026, Consul General Xu Wei met with Professor Sachin Chaturvedi, Vice Chancellor of Nalanda University. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening people-to-people exchanges and university cooperation between China and India.

Consul General Xu noted that under the strategic guidance of the two leaders, China-India relations have continued to improve, with a rich array of cultural exchange activities. The gradual resumption of direct flights and personnel exchanges is injecting new momentum into people-to-people bonds between the two ancient civilizations. He recalled that the Nalanda Mahavihara stands as an important historic witness to China-India cultural ties, where the eminent Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang once studied. The Consulate stands ready to facilitate cooperation between Nalanda University and Chinese universities as well as think tanks, so as to enhance youth exchanges and friendship, promote mutual learning between Chinese and Indian civilizations, and contribute to the sound development of bilateral relations.
Professor Chaturvedi said that Nalanda University is committed to promoting cross-cultural academic exchanges and sharing development experiences among Global South. The university looks forward to deepening research and education cooperation with the Chinese side on issues of vital importance to global welfare, including sustainable development, green transition, and technological innovation, with the aim to make the university an academic bridge connecting the two ancient civilizations and fostering the India-China friendship.
Located in Rajgir, Bihar, Nalanda University was re-established in 2010 with the support of the East Asia Summit member states. It operates under the Ministry of External Affairs of India and is an international research university dedicated to reviving the Nalanda Mahavihara. In 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated its new campus.
