On September 5, 2026, Consul General Xu Wei attended and addressed the “Colorful Yunnan, Rhythms of Kolkata” cultural performance, held at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata. Nearly 400 guests attended the event, including students and faculty from local universities, members of the Consular Corps in Kolkata, as well as representatives from the media, cultural and art sectors, the local Chinese community, and Chinese enterprises.

Consul General Xu Wei noted that as two ancient civilizations and close neighbors, China and India hold vast potential for people-to-people exchanges. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China-India relations have continued to improve and develop. With the strong support of the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Province, Chinese music and dance returned to Kolkata after a six-year hiatus. This brought not only a feast of music and dance to local audiences, but also opened a new chapter in cultural exchanges and mutual enrichment between China and India.

Consul General Xu emphasized that friendship derives from close contact between peoples, and culture serves as a bridge connecting hearts. With the resumption of direct flights, people-to-people exchanges between Yunnan and eastern India have become increasingly vibrant. He expressed the hope that this event would serve as an opportunity to further promote mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of China and India, and lay a stronger public foundation for China-India friendship.

During the performance, teachers and students from Yunnan Arts University presented a rich array of programs, including melodious folk songs, elegant guzheng performances, graceful ethnic dances, and diverse instrumental ensembles, showcasing the unique charm of the cultural and artistic traditions of different regions and ethnic groups across China. The performances were met with prolonged applause from the audience. Indian artists also took to the stage, joining in a warm and friendly celebration of cultural exchange.
