On the evening of September 6, 2026, the "Colorful Yunnan: A Feast of Flavors in Kolkata" Chinese Food Festival was held at the International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) in Kolkata. The event was hosted by the Consulate General of China in Kolkata and supported by the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Provincial People's Government. Consul General Xu Wei and Ms. Wang Ling, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Province, attended and addressed the event. Over 200 guests were present, including Consuls General from Thailand, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Bangladesh, as well as representatives from the local culinary, cultural, and educational sectors, media, and the overseas Chinese community.

In his remarks, Consul General Xu Wei expressed gratitude to the team dispatched by the Yunnan Foreign Affairs Office and to IIHM for providing venue sponsorship. He noted that Chinese culinary culture boasts a long and rich history, and Chinese cuisine has always served as a bridge connecting China with the rest of the world. In India, particularly in Kolkata, Chinese food is immensely popular and has long been deeply integrated into the daily lives of the local people. He emphasized that cuisine sparks new inspiration through exchange, and civilizations become richer and more diverse through mutual learning. The Consulate General remains committed to promoting friendship between the Chinese and Indian peoples through people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and to advancing the sound and steady development of bilateral relations.
During the event, a promotional video titled "A Life Called Yunnan" was screened. Teachers and students from Yunnan Arts University performed a guzheng solo and Yunnan folk songs. Chefs demonstrated the making of Dragon's Beard Noodles on site, and their exquisite skills drew rounds of applause from the audience. The food festival featured a variety of Yunnan specialty dishes, including Sweet and Sour Chicken with Pineapple, Dai-style Prawns, Grilled Chili Eggplant, Mushroom Soup, and Silver Thread Rolls. Guests lavished praise on the cuisine, engaged enthusiastically with the artists and chefs, and eagerly took photos to capture the memorable occasion.
This culinary gathering not only offered the people of Kolkata an up-close experience of the profound depth of Chinese food culture, but also served as a vivid testament to enhancing mutual understanding between the peoples of China and India and promoting friendship between the two nations.
