2026-10-14 14:41

On 12 October 2026, Acting Consul General Ouyang Huifeng was invited to attend and address the opening ceremony of the golden jubilee Durga Puja celebration organized by Netaji Sarak Anchalic Adhubasibrinda (Behala), Kolkata. More than 200 people, including community leaders and local residents, attended the event.

Acting Consul General Ouyang noted that China and India are both ancient civilizations with a long history of cultural exchanges. Buddhism, which spread from India to China and underwent millennia of transmission and development, has profoundly influenced the culture, arts and social life of both countries and has become an important bond for exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Indian civilizations. The Consulate General looks forward to working with friends from all walks of life in eastern India to further promote people-to-people exchanges, enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, and contribute to the sound and stable development of China-India relations.

Durga Puja is the grandest traditional festivals in eastern India. This community’s Durga celebration is themed on the Buddhist architectural art of China and India, presenting the artistic features of China’s Longmen Grottoes and Dunhuang Mogao Caves, as well as India’s Ajanta Caves. It provides a unique window for local people to learn about the history and culture of Buddhism and the exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Indian civilizations.
