On October 18, Acting Consul General Ouyang Huifeng attended the 2026 Kolkata Chinese Community Chongyang Festival Celebration at the Xuanzang Temple. About 300 people attended, including 150 Chinese community elders aged 75 and above, representatives of local Chinese associations, and volunteers.

Ouyang said the Chongyang Festival also known as China’s Seniors’ Day, is a traditional Chinese festival. It honors Chinese traditional virtues of filial piety and family love, which the Kolkata Chinese community continues to promote and pass down. Guests jointly lit lamps and prayed for blessings upon the elderly, distributed gifts, and presented a cake to a centenarian, wishing the elders good health, longevity, and a peaceful and comfortable life of old age. The event also featured wonderful performances, including a Chinese lion dance and Indian song and dance, creating a joyful and warm atmosphere.
