2019-12-20 14:53

On 18 Dec., Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata held 2019 Media Reception at downtown of the city. 158 media friends from over 100 media organizations, including PTI, UNI, ANI, Times of India, The Telegraph, Hindu, Statesmen, Xinhua News and ABP News, attended the reception.

Consul General Zha Liyou delivered a keynote speech, and said the People’s Republic of China has made miraculous development achievements over the past 70 years since its founding, that fully shows advantages of the communism system with Chinese characteristics. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has announced that China will uphold and improve the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and advance the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance, which again shows to the world the secret for China’s achievement, i.e. the CPC’s far-sighted vision, strong leadership, effective policies, and firm implementation.

The Consul General said 2019 is also the 72nd anniversary of the Republic of India, and a year seeing China India relations moving rapidly toward a closer partnership of development, and the sub-national ties between Chinese provinces and East Indian states get strengthened. He expressed appreciations to Indian media for their contribution to the aforesaid process, and encouraged them to continue to pay attention to and support the development of China-India relations, strengthen exchanges with Chinese counterparts, enhance the objective understanding of China, and provide positive public opinion support for the healthy development of bilateral relations.

He also played a clip of the documentary "Fighting terrorism in Xinjiang", and stressed that Xinjiang-related issues are not about human rights, ethnicity or religion, but about fighting violence, terrorism and separatism. China has made significant contributions to the anti-terrorism cause of the world, and it is a shame that some western countries made such slander. The “One Country Two Systems” has been a great success in Hong Kong since its return, and what the city now faces is not about human rights or democracy, but about stopping violence and chaos, upholding rule of law and restoring order as soon as possible. China resolutely safeguards its sovereignty, security and development interests, and firmly opposes the interference in China's internal affairs by any force using Xinjiang or HK related issues. The Western forces' attempts to sow discord among various ethnic groups in China and contain China's growth will never succeed. He called on the Indian media to learn about the truth of these issues as well as authoritative information from China, and report on them in an objective and fair way.

The Consul General then gave a Certificate of Honor to Mrs Chaitali Das, Managing Trustee of the Rakshak Foundation, for her support of targeted poverty alleviation work in Yunnan by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. Mrs Das, together with Mr Kamal Prakash, Director of Jiwanram Sheoduttrai Group, and Mr Avijit Nandi Majumdar, president of IMPACT & CEO of ANM News, spoke on their fascinating trips in China and fruitful engagements with Chinese counterparts in women affairs, business cooperation and cultural interactions.

The Consul General also inaugurated his twitter account with distinguished guests, and had an interview with the media. Videos on China’s development achievements and the Belt and Road Initiative were showed, such as China is Beyond Your Imagination, Beautiful China Photography, Our Silk Road Photography, and CCTV BRI ad.
